one-time design consultation

Design Consultations are a 1-2 hour home or virtual video visit, depending on location and availability.

This service is great for projects for homeowners who need guidance on planning the possibilities of a future renovation, problem solving functional or aesthetic misalignments such as furniture layout or creating a color scheme.

To make the most of our time together and set forth an impactful action plan, we request photos and any available floor plans of existing spaces prior to the Design Consultation, as well as project goals, existing pain points, mood boards or inspiration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are design fees calculated?

Each project is custom quoted based on the scope of work with allowances for furnishings, finishes, and equipment and flat rate and hourly design fees.

To secure your project in our calendar, an executed Design Service Agreement and non-refundable retainer are required.

what areas do you service?

Kindwell Design Co. is based in the northeastern Twin Cities near White Bear Lake, and works throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We love to work with our neighbors in Dellwood, Hugo, Grant, Mahtomedi, Marine on St. Croix, Stillwater, Lakeland, and into Hudson, Wisconsin. We are able to design throughout the United States on various scaled projects. We love to work in storied city homes, on expansive acreage, and secondary lake homes.

For projects outside of the Twin Cities of Minnesota, additional travel expenses for site visits should be expected.

How would you define your design style?

Aesthetically, we define our design style as Refined Coziness. This creates that lived-in feel with soulful applications of finishes and materials. We design homes that are deeply personal and wellness-focused, tailored to the family who lives there.

Each space is designed to create comfort through character and reflect values in function. Using high-quality, sustainable materials is our standard. Whether you lean modern traditional, soulful contemporary, heartfelt mid-century, or nostalgic, your home is a reflection of you.

How long does the design process take?

Large or whole-home renovations take 9-12+ months for design and build. Custom home builds take 1-3 years from architectural concepts to final installation. Smaller remodels or single rooms, such as kitchens or bathrooms, and furnishing projects take 6-9 from design through to completion.

We encourage prospective clients to begin the inquiry process at minimum 3 months prior to the hopeful project start date.

Who manages the builds?

Kindwell does not manage the build directly, but we do work alongside the Builder, Architect, Subcontractors, and Vendors to ensure the design is executed efficiently. We communicate regularly at on-site meetings, via phone/email, and project management systems.
